Following the January inauguration of the 116th U.S. Congress, «Political Geometry,» the Institute’s first Speaker Series event of the year, will focus on how geometry, statistics, and computer science have shaped the redistricting of Congressional districts.

Tufts University professor and mathematician, Moon Duchin, joins Franklin Institute’s Dr. Jayatri Das for a dynamic discussion exploring the complexities of voter representation, partisan redistricting, and gerrymandering—the practice of manipulating voter district boundaries to favor a particular outcome.

Duchin will discuss her research in theoretical geometry and her inspiration to apply her expertise to ensure fair voter representation. She will also reflect on her role in the 2018 Pennsylvania redistricting process, the impact of her work on the 2018 election, and the future of gerrymandering when maps are redrawn after the 2020 census.

Moderator:
Dr. Jayatri Das, Chief Bioscientist, The Franklin Institute
Featured Guest:
Moon Duchin, Ph.D.
